Bertie begs

We have discovered that Bertie our miniature micro pig loves sweeties, if he sees us with a packet of sweets he runs to the gate wagging his tale and jumps up with pleading look on his face.

(And yes he does have a muddy nose in this photograph).

The truth about pigs and mud

The truth about pigs is that they like mud, they are natural rotavators, they love to root around.

As you can see some like it more than others!

Hugo the Kune Kune has happily devasted his pig pen, whilst Lucy and Albert the micro pigs have (so far) kept theirs' in quite good order.

Lucy our miniature pet micro pig

Lucy is a very sweet little pig who loves to be scratched behind the ear, here she is rising from an afternoon nap.

Deborah Devonshire on pet pigs

"Grandmother Redesdale was  fat, pink cheeked and smiling, with wispy white hair tucked into a small black cap. She was always dressed in black, unlike widows of today, and was a wonderful storyteller. She kept a Berkshire pig instead of a dog, the double of Beatrix Potter's Pig-Wig, which she took to church on a lead. No one thought it a bit odd - affection for animals was taken for granted - and she had a similar affection for my father whom she called "Poor Dowdie", with an indulgent smile"

Hugo our teddy bear kune kune pig

Love this photograph of Hugo the Kune Kune, he looks so sweet, almost teddy bear in appearance.

Sleepy little pet pigs

Looks very much like Bertie is letting Lucy have a Sunday morning lie in here.
Of course both pigs were soon up and about for breakfast as soon as they saw us.

Kune Kune Pet Pig

This is Hugo our pedigree Kune Kune boar, he was once named Crackling but as you may have guessed we have an aversion to food related names, after all our pigs are pets!
Hugo came to live with us when his previous owner got a job working away during the week and could no longer look after him. For a while it looked as though he really was going to be crackling but fortunately his breeder stepped in and was able to re-home him with us.

Albert the micro pig

That's right Spare Ribs is Spare Ribs no more.
We've renamed hime Albert which inevitably has already been shortened to Bertie and Bert.
That's a lot of names for one little pet pig!

Little Pet Pigs Arrive

Finally after much ado we are the proud owners of two little micro pigs. The little spotted pig on the right is Lucy, the black pig needs a new name, his breeder called him Spare Ribs but we don't really like that so we'll be considering different names this evening.
